The conversation on infrastructure action continues at the statehouse this week.
The primary feature of proposed legislation is a 10 cent per gallon increase on the gasoline and diesel tax. State Senator Ken Rozenboom says the increase passing would be contingent on a change to the Road Use Tax Formula, in which rural counties would get close to a third of the new funds, as opposed to 20 percent in the old formula. State Representative Guy Vander Linden says despite the proposed increase earning bipartisan support, he’s not certain that a bill will pass without difficulty. If enacted, the fuel tax increase would take effect the first day of the month following enactment.
