Many people have already pulled their lawn mowers out a couple times in Knoxville this year. Community Service Officer Arlene Worrall reminds people that when you do mow your lawn, it’s important to remember to pick the grass clippings off of the street and sidewalk. She tells KNIA/KRLS News that a couple easy ways to do that are using a leaf blower or sweeping up. Worrall notes that vegetation is not allowed to be longer than eight inches – this includes not just grass, but weeds that may crawl up buildings and trees as well. If the lawn is not kept up, she says that the Streets Department will take care of your lawn for you, and the city will bill you afterward.

Worrall also reminds people that are still burning vegetation to keep a water source nearby. She adds that you’re not allowed to burn trash with the grass or leaves.

Finally, she reminds everyone that it’s important to keep bushes and trees from obstructing sidewalks. Trees have an eight foot clearance height that must not be obstructed on the sidewalks.
