An H1N1 flu-shot clinic in Pella is scheduled to run Saturday, October 31st at Pella Community High School Cafeteria on 212 E. University Street from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., or until the vaccines runs out. Marion County Public Health Spokesperson Diane Ellis says the clinic only applies to ‘priority groups’: pregnant women, people who care for children younger than six months, health care personnel with direct patient contact, and children six months through four years and children five through 18 years of age who have chronic medical conditions.

Other tentative clinic dates are set, and subject to change, are:

November 5 Knoxville
November 12 Bussey
November 14 Pella
November 19 Pleasantville/Melcher Dallas
November 21 Knoxville

County public health officials says that children are especially at higher risk for H1N1-related complications, with children younger than 2 years of age in particular. Other groups at high risk include children and adolescents with chronic medical conditions, such as asthma and diabetes, and children on long-term aspirin therapy, among others.

Warning signs of influenza infection incude fast breathing or trouble breathing, bluish or gray skin color, dehydration, and severe or persistent vomiting, among others.

Health officials will contact KNIA/KRLS first with any changes or vaccine updates.

Above all, county health officials are encouraging residents to always wash their hands, cover their coughs and stay home when sick.
