A heat activation plan will be starting tomorrow in Knoxville.

With the forecasted temperatures and excessive heat watch in effect this week, the city will be opening two cooling shelters in town, Saturday (8/19) through Wednesday (8/23). Shelter locations will be at the Library and the Rec Center during their normal hours of operation.

Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for the elderly, those working, and/or participating in outdoor activities.
