Better Basketball From Knoxville Boys Noticed By Everyone

Posted: Sunday, December 29th, 2013 at 6:00 am

Fans of the Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad noticed one thing immediately when The Panthers made their debut earlier this season. This is a much improved team and they will be in several games. Case in point, the Panthers have only been in one lopsided game…that being a 40 point loss to Grinnell. Coach Jeff Larson says this group is enjoying each other. He tells KNIA/KRLS Sports they just have to get to the fourth quarter with a chance to win it. Larson says the guys are competitive more this year than ever, and he says that makes everyone enjoy basketball more. Knoxville is 2-4 on the season and 1-2 in the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Panthers travel to Norwalk on January seventh when they restart the season.

Competition Will Be A Big Point For Knoxville Boys Over Break

In the break between the Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad’s last game a week ago against Newton and their next game January seventh against Norwalk, one thing that will be stressed at practice is competing. Coach Jeff Larson tells KNIA/KRLS Sports along with the starters, the rest of the team will have a hand at making the team better. Larson says the starters have done a good job, but added they need to raise their play to another level. Knoxville has a tough stretch to start January with a road game against Norwalk on the seventh, then three straight home games against Pella, Pella Christian, and Dallas Center-Grimes.

Posted: Monday, December 2nd, 2013 at 5:59 am

The goal for this season’s Knoxville Boys Basketball Squad is to work hard and compete in practice and games. Coach Jeff Larson is not expecting a 15-win season, but he tells KNIA/KRLS Sports if the guys compete each time on the court starting Tuesday night with Albia, good things and wins can and will happen. Larson adds with the senior class and the way they held the football squad together this fall, he feels the leadership on the team is very good. Larson says he was pleased and encouraged by the Panthers’ showing at the Montezuma Jamboree on Friday where they outscored the host Braves 40-15 in two quarters of play. He said the guys ran the offense well and also shot the ball well. Two things Larson says was at the top of the list of things to improve on for this season. Knoxville hosts Albia on Tuesday night to open up its 2013/2014 campaign. You can hear the action starting with the girls game on AM 1320 and 95.3 FM KNIA and streamed live at kniakrls.com at 6:00.
