The Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the districts for the upcoming 2020 football season, with little changes in every class except for 4A.

Once again, all schools from Class A to 3A will play five district and four-non district schedules. Pella and Knoxville are once again paired together, this time in Class 3A District 7, with Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Nevada, and North Polk.

Pella Christian and Pleasantville will continue to be sharing the same foes as well in Class 1A District 7, joining Central-Decatur, Colfax-Mingo, Interstate 35, and Mount Ayr.

PCM remains in Class 2A in District 8, with Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Clarke, and Saydel.

Class 4A teams will play in a new system called the “success model,” with the 40 teams, including Indianola, in a one-year scheduling rotation. Seven groups will be organized for geography and with the intention of providing greater competitive balance to scheduling. The groups were organized by measuring a program’s last four years of football results through the IHSAA’s Ratings Percentage Index formula and their last four years of playoff success. Indianola ranked 17th out of the 40 teams, and will play those five games against Valley, Ankeny, Sioux City West, Sioux City East, and Council Bluffs Jefferson, in addition to four non-grouping games yet to be determined.

In a rare move, Twin Cedars and Melcher-Dallas will no longer share the same district — as the Sabers are in eight-player district 4, while the Saints are in district 6. Click here for more about their districts.

The 2020 schedules will be released in March, which is when teams will officially learn their non-district opponents. KNIA/KRLS will once again have best-in-the-state coverage of Iowa High School Football this fall, with six play-by-play games streaming every Friday, and extensive pregame and postgame coverage of the teams in south-central Iowa.
