Vinton Man Injured in Saturday Hunting Accident

Hunting Accident in Marion County

A man from Vinton suffered a non life-threatening injury when he apparently accidentally shot himself in the calf when holstering his handgun early Saturday afternoon while hunting. Marion County DNR Conservation Officer John Mertz says that the accident occurred near 140th and Hwy 14. The man who has yet to be identified was transported to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines by Pella Ambulance. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa State Patrol, and the DNR responded. The DNR is continuing its investigation into the incident. KNIA KRLS will have more information as soon as it becomes official.

Safety Should Be at the Forefront for Pheasant Season Opener

Saturday is the opening day for pheasant hunting season in Iowa, and despite lower numbers of the game birds in rural parts of the state, an estimated 80,000 hunters are expected to be out across Iowa.

Bow Season Open for Deer
