The “ping” of a well-hit softball in the bottom of the seventh off the bat of Lydia Dingeman pushed the Pella High softball team past Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont last night, 5 – 4. The walk-off was Lydia’s second of the year, and she and her sister, Alexa, have now hit five of the team’s six this season. Eighth-grader Courtney Thompson was also 3-for-3 at the plate. Pella’s baseball team played a scoreless game with Saydel until the fourth, where they scored four runs and prevailed by the tally of 5 – 1. Tyler Hillman had two hits, AJ Kingery had three, while Hillman held off the Eagles on the mound, throwing six innings of shutout ball allowing just four hits and two walks. The Lady Dutch improve to 8 – 6, the boys are 9 – 2, and they’ll each play at home against Norwalk tonight. You can catch the baseball game live on 92.1 KRLS, KNIAKRLS.com, and on our free mobile app with Cory Houser on the play-by-play starting at 7:15 p.m.
