The Army Corps of Engineers wants to remind you that not just any life jacket will do when you’re headed out for the water, certain styles are available for your particular activity. Check the label inside the jacket for its particular use. Jetskiing, waterskiing, tubing and other high speed watersports need jackets designed to stay on if you hit the water. Inflatable jackets may be great for adults enjoying a quiet day on the fishing boat, but they need to be worn to satisfy the boating requirements, and they are not to be used by children under 16 years old, or anyone involved with watersports where you will know you’re going to end up in the water at some point. No matter the activity, all life jackets should be Coast Guard Approved, fit the wearer well, and be in good shape.
