Mercy Hospital will officially begin service of its second air ambulance based out of the Knoxville airport today. The new Bell 407 helicopter will serve the communities of Knoxville, Pella, Oskaloosa, Ottumwa, Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Corydon and Bloomfield. Dan Keough, Director of Emergency Transport Services at Mercy says they are very exited to expand their fleet and base the second aircraft here in Knoxville. He says they have seen a large increase in the number of requests for air ambulance transport from the area and a second aircraft will allow them to respond faster to rural areas in southeast Iowa.

To commemorate the beginning of the new service, the Knoxville Chamber Ambassadors will host a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11am today at the Knoxville airport. The public is welcome to attend the event and welcome Mercy One to the area, light refreshments will be offered after the ceremony.
