MidAmerican Energy is celebrating construction of the the Prairie Wind Farm Saturday.

The event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is free and open to the public, where participants of all ages can learn about wind energy and the construction of the Prairie Wind Farm. Attendees can see equipment and turbine components. A free lunch and giveaways will be provided to the first 300 people. Construction began on the Prairie Wind Farm in April, and the project will be complete and providing benefits to Mahaska County and MidAmerican Energy customers in Iowa by the end of 2017. When complete, 84 wind turbines over about 15 square miles will add 168 MW of wind energy capacity for Iowa customers.
