Work has started on transmission lines running from the Red Rock Hydroelectric Project over to the Pella West Substation.

Joni Livingston with Missouri River Energy Services tells KNIA/KRLS they’ve received letters from residents who are displeased with where the overhead lines will be placed. The permitting process began more than five years ago, and Livingston says they acquired the project with permits allowing the utility lines in the right of way as it exists.

She says MRES has explored a number of possibilities, including purchasing land on the other side of T-15, but there was no interest.

Livingston anticipates lengthy delays if Missouri River was to change the plans, which would possibly delay power from the Hydropower Plant reaching the grid.

The power line project is slated for completion later this spring.
