An exchange student from the small European country of Moldova is learning how things work here in Iowa while studying at Knoxville High School. Maria Diminet says she’s really enjoying her time here in Knoxville and has already been able to experience a variety of different things since arriving in the U.S. just three months ago. Maria keeps busy by being part of FFA, Science Club, Octagon Club and the girls’ basketball team. Maria says being a foreign exchange student offers many benefits for all involved. She says the Future Leaders Exchange Program has provided her with wonderful opportunities and she really appreciates the similarities between Moldova and Knoxville. Maria will be in Knoxville for the remainder of the school year and says she’s looking forward to her trip to Disneyworld in a few weeks and to be able to experience her first American Thanksgiving and Christmas.
