Every spring when the temperatures start to rise and the conditions are just right residents can be seen hitting the Lake Red Rock trails in search of delicious morel mushrooms.

Avid morel enthusiast and hunter Doug Wilson of Knoxville tells KNIA/KRLS News his secret to knowing when the perfect time is to hunt morels is “when the lilacs bloom, it’s time to get in the woods.” According to wideopenspaces.com Morels will start to appear when the outside temperatures hover close to 60 degrees during the day, with night time temperatures saying close to 40 degrees.
