The PCM Mustang girls basketball team took down the Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont Rockets Saturday in a 45-41 win. The Mustangs and Rockets would battle through a back and forth game with PCM jumping out to the 13-5 lead after one quarter before the Rockets would battle back to lead by three at the half 20-17. Both teams would be fridged from behind the three point line leading to the low scoring affair. The Rockets would push their lead to five after three quarters of play as they were led by freshmen Whitney Klyn’s 18 points, 12 of which came in the second half. PCM senior Regan Freland and junior Lilli Baird would prove too much down the stretch with Freland putting in a game high 24 points and Baird adding 10, all in the second half pushing the Mustangs to the 45-41 win. PCM will next head to North Polk on Wednesday for a class 3A region 6 semifinal with the Comets. PCM Head Coach Jeff Lindsey tells KNIA/KRLS Sports his Mustangs have been dealing with sickness over the past week and he knows his team needs to be at full health if they want to have any chance against the Comets. Lindsey says his girls need to be healthy and hydrated because North Polk likes to get out and run and press and just wear their opponents down. He says the Mustangs need to be in a good health state and not worry about their previous meetups with the Comets. PCM has already dropped a pair of games this season to Heart of Iowa Conference foe and the 8th ranked Comets 66-27 and 84-25. PCM and North Polk will hit the hardwood Wednesday night in Allmen at 7 p.m.
