National Police Week is this week. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy designated May 15th as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day, and the week in which May 15th falls as National Police Week. In 1994 President Bill Clinton directed that the flag of the United States be displayed at half-staff on all government buildings on May 15th each year. This week will also be the last week in which Chief Dan Losada with the Knoxville Police Department will be a police officer, as he will retire on Peace Officers’ Memorial Day after almost 40 years in law enforcement which include the past 15 as the Knoxville Police Chief. To honor Chief Losada and to continue to practice social distancing the Knoxville Police Department will host a special Facebook Live event for Chief Losada’s  “Final 10-42.” A 10-42 or Out of Service code is a meaningful event in the career and life of a police officer, and Chief Losada wants to share it with the Knoxville community. The event will begin on Facebook at 3:45 p.m. and will end shortly after 4 p.m. During this time residents can feel free to share well wishes and memories with Chief Losada on this event page as well as the departments Facebook page.
