The City of Knoxville has received the first draw of money from the state for the Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Knoxville Zoning Administrator Cindy Glick tells KNIA/KRLS news the city received $413,237 of the total $779,542 recently which mostly covered the costs of acquisition and some administrative costs. Glick says the next draw is planned soon and will cover demolition and asbestos removal costs. The program continues to move forward as Habitat for Humanity is currently building on two of the lots included in the program and plans to build six more homes between now and the spring of 2012. Glick adds that negotiations with adjoining property owners continue for the 4 half lots on the program and the city plans to keep the property at 1206 E. Main Street for possible right-of-way. The remaining six properties will be put up for sale and the city will keep one commercial property (old Goff and Nash building) to hopefully develop the space into downtown parking at sometime in the near future.
