In a key game for positioning in the Pride of Iowa Conference Nodaway Valley defended its home court against visiting Pleasantville 70-35 in boys basketball Friday night. After an even start the Wolverines finished the first quarter on an 8-0 run and parlayed that into a 32-16 halftime lead. The pressure defense by Nodaway Valley gave the Trojans fits and forced 18 Pleasantville turnovers. Foul trouble and injuries also made things difficult on coach Tom Wilkins and the Trojans. Jake Burgett led the way for Pleasantville with nine points on the night, seven of them coming in the second quarter. The Trojans are in the middle of a busy part of the schedule including a game Saturday night with Carlisle and games Monday and Tuesday. Coach Wilkins commented that this was gut check time for the Trojans and this stretch would let him know who his players were and who wants to win. With the loss Pleasantville falls to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in the Pride of Iowa Conference.
