Ordinances governing the building of sheds, decks, patios and fences may soon be changed by the City of Knoxville.

The Knoxville City Council has set a date for a public hearing to change city ordinances regarding new construction at the request of Planning and Zoning Coordinator Bill Mettee. Mettee tells KNIA/KRLS News the change would require all new construction to be permitted. Previously only structures of a certain size needed city inspection, but Mettee says the city working closely together with property owners to ensure health and safety is worth the change. He says inspecting structures makes sure that safety and quality standards are met to the benefit of everyone in Knoxville. The public hearing has been set for the next City Council meeting, December 5 at 6:15 p.m., at City Hall.
