After losing about 80% of the scoring from last season to graduation, the PCM boys basketball team will be looking for some of their youth to step up when they begin their season on Tuesday.

The Mustangs have just two seniors to the roster this winter in Grant Van Veen and August Stock, the latter of which missed all of last season with an injury. Junior Jacob Wendt is the lone returning starter for PCM, and overall the team brings back just four players that saw varsity action last season. With several new faces suiting up for the Mustangs this season, head coach Fred Lorenson says that focusing on execution will be critical for his squad early in the season.

“Well, the first thing is we’ve got to execute the stuff that we’re trying to do. Being in the right place at the right time and take care of business that way. And then the turnover thing is such a huge deal, obviously in basketball. We’ve got to take care of the ball better, and we’ve got to keep working at that. If we execute what we’re trying to get done and and take care of the basketball, we’ll have a have a good chance.”

PCM opens the 2022-2023 season at home on Tuesday night with a 7 p.m. game against Knoxville.
