Pella Christian is set to begin the fall sports season next week, and for one sport a record has already been set before competition has even begun.

The Eagles cross country team has 35 runners this season, which is the highest number of kids out for the sport in the history of the program. The most runners prior to this season was 28. The cross country team also has the most seniors it’s ever had with 10, something that Pella Christian Head Coach Mike Buchheit believes will help establish a culture within the program.

Buchheit:

“When you’ve got that number of kids that certainly brings a lot of presence to what we’re trying to do. It helps really set the tone for the culture of the program as well. So, just culturally when you’re trying to establish things as a program and you’ve got that many upperclassmen and really good numbers it just sets the tone for what we’re trying to do, and we just have a really good group of kids in the program as well.”

The Eagles first chance to display that culture in competition will come on August 26th at the Iowa State cross country course in the Gilbert meet.
