A group of high-mileage vehicles will be making a trip from the Midwest to the west coast this summer, beginning right here in Knoxville. Ten amateur built and modified vehicles that average at least 50 miles per gallon will be participating in “Rally Green” from Iowa to California this August. With higher gas prices and the supply of crude oil diminishing, the purpose of the event is to showcase vehicles that high mileage and alternative fuel vehicles do exist. Day one begins during the 50th anniversary of the Knoxville Nationals where the vehicles will participate in the parade before their grand send-off Sunday. The trip will take place August 15-21st.
