A rezoning application for approximately six acres of land located on Business Highway 163 near the old bowling alley site was considered at Tuesday nights Pella City Council meeting. The request came from Iowa Renting and Leasing Incorporated. The request was to rezone the parcel from commercial to limited light industrial use. That change will allow the building of an indoor storage facility, and potentially a storage area for RVs. City Administrator Mike Nardini tells KNIA/KRLS News that the first response is to go to the Pella Comprehensive Plan and consider if the rezoning fits into the current direction the city is looking to move. Some council members expressed concern that the Pella Sports Park will be completed in the next 12 months and they want to make sure that prime locations to attract possible new businesses to the area are available, and fit into the commercial zoning that was originally intended for that location. The council decided to table the request and allow the developer to further discuss their options before bringing the request back before the council.
