An Ottumwa man was transported to the Knoxville Hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries after the flatbed semi he was driving tipped on its side on Highway 5 south of Bussey Wednesday morning. At around 10:20 yesterday morning, authorities received a call about a semi that had tipped over on Highway 5. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the driver, Jerry M. Ogden, of Ottumwa, was traveling northbound in the semi and negotiating a curve when his load of hay bales shifted. This caused the semi and trailer to upset, coming to rest on its side and blocking both lanes of traffic.

Highway 5 was closed for a lengthy period of time as road crews worked to clean up the area. The semi was registered to Ben Shinn’s Trucking of Knoxville. Bussey Fire, Indiana Township Fire, Knoxville Police Department, Pella Ambulance, Iowa State Patrol, Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa Department of Transportation, the Iowa Department of Commercial Vehicle enforcement, and Marion County Emergency Management were all on scene.
