December is a good time to remind citizens of policies regarding snow removal and highlight some important details for Marion County snow events.

  1. Snow from private drives shall not be placed on the roadway or shoulders.
  2. Drivers should use extreme caution when frost could be present as It is not our policy to sand and salt roads that are slick, slippery, or dangerous due to the formation of frost.
  3. Motor Graders and Snow Plows will not normally be in operation after 8:00 PM, nor begin before 4:00 AM. If conditions are too hazardous, snow removal operations may be suspended until the County Engineer deems it safe to resume. Roads may only have one lane plowed for a period of time. After all paved roads have been opened to two-lane travel and gravel roads at least one-lane, snow removal will only be carried out during normal working hours.
  4. The County will not replace mailboxes damaged or knocked down by the force of the snow thrown from the plow.
  5. Please give our drivers room to work for their safety and yours. Slow down, remove distractions, and if travel is not recommended, please stay home if you are able to.

This information was provided by the Marion County Engineer.

Knoxville Community Service Officer Meredith Clark tells KNIA/KRLS News about the city of Knoxville’s regulations in regard to getting vehicles off the streets when the snow ordinance is in effect, “I know a lot of people don’t have a ton of room in their driveways so we do allow residents to park in the grass as long as they park on their own property.”

Whether it is in the county or in town, the idea is to give plows a chance to remove the snow.
