Much of Marion County and the surrounding area saw a fair amount of snow fall Saturday morning, and if it seems awfully early to you, you’re not alone. The early snowfall appears to be a record for the state of Iowa, according to records kept by the National Weather Service; breaking the previous record date for a measurable accumulation of snowfall, which had been October 17th. The KNIA/KRLS Studios recorded a little over an inch of snow on Saturday morning. On average, the date of the first snowfall in the state is around November 10th.
