The City of Knoxville is honoring one of the greatest Sprint Car drivers in history as Mayor Brian Hatch has declared Saturday, August 9th, as Steve Kinser Day.

Kinser will be presented a proclamation and given a key to the City of Knoxville prior to Saturday’s FVP Knoxville Nationals Final, according to Knoxville City Manager Harold Stewart.

“It will be a nice honor for Mr. Kinser. We definitely appreciate the success he’s had (at the Knoxville Nationals) and helping make the sport of Sprint Car racing what it is today.”

This will be Kinser’s last Knoxville Nationals and many drivers and owners, including Tony Stewart, would love to see Kinser come away with the victory one last time.

“He’s been working hard all year. He’s been racing hard all year and I’d like to see him go out with a bang like that.”
