For many teams, the real work for trying to prepare for a state championship run or for just getting ready for a season in general begins the day after the previous campaign ends. Pella Christian softball knows that one big thing they need to focus on here in the offseason is swinging the bats. While the pitching was some of the best in the conference and in the state in Class 2A, the Eagles’ bats suffered. PC hit just .275 on the year, which was second-worst in the Little Hawkeye Conference. Head coach, Karen Harrill, says one of the more direct ways to bolster that number is to head to the weight room. Pella Christian will lose two of their bigger bats with Tessa Howerzyl and Abby Pleima graduating, but will return a dominant pitching staff and still younger players that mostly have their sights set on the 2016 season starting next May.
