With just over two weeks remaining in the 2018 Legislative Session, both senators and representatives will look to check the biggest priority for Republican leadership off their list before the session ends.

Representative Guy Vander Linden says leaders in both chambers and the Iowa Senate are closing in on a tax cut package that primarily focuses on income tax.

Vander Linden, the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, declined to go into details until the bill is passed along to subcommittee work, but says it is closely aligned with the Governor’s $1.7 billion plan to reduce income taxes over five years, with triggers in place to prevent cuts from enacting if revenue goals aren’t met.

The bill is expected to pass a House subcommittee later this week. A Senate version has already passed this session, which includes $1.2 billion of cuts in the next fiscal year, which includes the corporate tax rate, but no triggers to prevent further cuts from happening if revenue lags behind.
