Rescue crews were dispatched to the 200 block of G40 east of Pleasantville Monday night to a report of a vehicle rollover.

Pleasantville Police Chief Joe Mrstik tells KNIA/KRLS News a vehicle driven by Dennis Bjerkie of Milo failed to negotiate a corner, hit a culvert, and wound up on its top. During the accident, Bjerkie’s hand and arm went up through the sunroof of the car, and when the vehicle came to a stop his hand and arm were trapped under the vehicle. Chief Mrstik says quick-thinking neighbors and passersby were able to retrieve a jack from a nearby home, jack up the car, and take the pressure off of Bjerkie’s arm, so first responders could extract him from the car. Mercy One Helicopter transported him from the scene. Pleasantville Police Department, Pleasantville Emergency Services, the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, and the Iowa State Patrol responded to the scene. The incident is under investigation, and the condition of Bjerkie has not been released.
