Area residents can take some simple steps to trim their electric bills this summer. Pella Cooperative Electric spokeswoman Jean Van Wyk says setting the thermostat between 78-80 degrees and closing the drapes and shades during the day can help lower summer cooling costs. MidAmerican Energy spokesman Ky Boyle says it’s important to make sure that cooling units are free of obstructions and furnace filters are changed. Boyle also encourages annual inspections of air conditioners.
