As area residents celebrate our nation’s independence over the next few days, they should be safe, don’t drink and drive, and wear bright-colored clothing at night.  Knoxville Police Chief Dan Losada also says it’s illegal to possess or use fireworks which explode, fly or pop in Iowa, and there’s a simple misdemeanor charge with a minimum $250 fine if someone is caught with fireworks.  Pella Police Department lieutenant John Van Haaften says residents should leave themselves extra time before driving to a fireworks show, maintain a safe distance from the fireworks, and be courteous to people when driving and parking in crowded areas.
