Classic cars and poodle skirts completed the scene on the square for 50’s and 60’s night at Thursdays in Pella. Elvis impersonator Alan Robuck crooned to the audience at the Tulip Toren, while several youngsters gave it their best shots in the Bubble-blowing, hula hoop, and twist contests. Pella residents Kaitlyn VanWeelden and Molly Bolt claimed the bubble-blowing and hula hoop titles, respectively, while Anna Zaczek of Chicago won her twist title thanks to lots of practice to “The Peppermint Twist.” Winners of the car show were Francis Schiebout of Pella for second best-in-show, the “People’s Choice” award went to Chuck Vanderwaal of Pella, and Knoxville resident Jim Sevier’s ’67 Mustang took Best in Show.
