As we head into the official kickoff week for high school football preparations continue for both Pella and Pella Christian. Pella Coach Jay Mckinstrey says Pella again has a lot of team speed and he has been very impressed with the leadership he’s seen from his seniors. He says he looks for the offense to be much improved this year with a year of experience running the spread offense. He says replacing four front defensive lineman will be tough but he feels confident the guys stepping in to those positions will be ready. Pella Christian meanwhile will have a lot of new faces at key positions. Gone are running back Mitch Fynaardt, Tight end Eli Groenendyk and offensive and defensive lineman Tyler Klyn just to name a few. Coach Rich Kacmarynski says those are big shoes to fill but he’s been pleased with the progress he’s seen so far. He says they’ve been working a lot on simple things like wrapping up when tackling because those things can win or lose close ballgames. Pella Christian travels to New London to start the season Friday night while Pella goes to Washington.
