Pella Christian opened their volleyball season last night falling at Class 4A 14th ranked Johnston 3-1 by scores of 23-25, 27-25, 20-25 and 23-25. The Eagles who are 8th ranked in Class 2A were led in kills by Courtney Kroeze and Jenna Horstman each with 9. Kroeze also added 4 ace serves. Bekah Posthuma tallied 40 assists. Paige Zylstra had 3 blocks while Hannah VerMeer had 2 and Ashley Van Kooten led the defense with 29 digs. Coach John Evenhouse said he was very pleased with how the Eagles fought hard and took each game down to the wire. He said they really stepped up their play from practices and had a chance to win but committed too many costly early season errors that they hope to improve. The Eagles return to action tomorrow night when they host Winterset in a freshman/JV varsity tripleheader starting at 5:30pm.
