This month the Iowa Board of Medicine issued a cease and desist order to Knoxville Veterinarian Craig Burk. After an investigation, the board concluded that Burk engaged in the practice of medicine in violation of Iowa law by using a CO2 laser on a person and by dispensing medications to himself, a member of his family, and a member of his office staff. Dr. Burk tells KNIA KRLS news that providing medicines available to family members and staff has been a common practice in the field until relatively recently. About a year ago, investigators told Burk to discontinue the practice, and he did so immediately. Dr. Burk says that to his knowledge, there are no further ongoing investigations or forthcoming sanctions, and that he looks forward to continuing his practice in Knoxville for many years to come.
