Fifth ranked Pella started the season with a bang winning on the road at Washington last night 47-to-eight, but it was not as easy as it may appear. Pella jumped out to a 14/nothing first quarter lead scoring on its first two offensive possessions, but then penalties and mistakes stalled the offense for much of the second quarter and the lead was trimmed to 14/eight at halftime. Pella quickly got the momentum back as Brett Bogaard returned the second half kickoff down to Washington’s three yard line setting up a quick Pella score to start the third quarter and the Little Dutch went on to score 33 unanswered points to get the win. Coach Jay Mckinstrey said the focus at halftime was to get the enthusiasm and momentum back on their side and the guys answered that challenge in a big way. Brett Bogaard led the rushing attack with 95 yards and two touchdowns, Spencer Boeyink also had two scores and Blaine Forsythe went 11-for-17 for 168 yards and three touchdowns through the air. Mark Frommelt led the defense with two interceptions and a fumble recovery. Pella hosts Oskaloosa for its home opener Friday night.
