In a continued effort to cut costs, the U.S. Postal Service has offered job buyouts to an estimated 30,000 employees. Pella Postmaster Roger Hugen tells KNIA/KRLS News that the buyouts are mostly being offered to larger offices that handle sorting, like Des Moines or Cedar Rapids; so his office is not likely to be affected. Rosetta Roose, Supervisor at the Knoxville Post Office says their office will not be affected as well, adding that more automation and lower mail volume already reduced any expendable positions. The U.S. Postal Service believes the buyouts could save $500 million a year.
