P-C-M racked up 453 yards in total offense including a dominating 370 on the ground as the Mustangs beat Pella Christian 33-to-seven last night. Pella Christian moved the ball well against the Mustangs and tallied 363 total yards but only found the end zone once on a nine yard run by Kyle Nikkel late in the fourth quarter. Eagles assistant coach Darrell DeRuiter said P-C-M’s speed was a concern coming in and again it hurt the Eagles especially late in the game. P-C-M coach Dar Dahms says it took a while but just like last week eventually they started to take advantage of what the defense was giving them and it paid off. Hutch Burns scored three touchdowns for P-C-M on runs of 28, 45 and 48 yards and finished with 169 yards to lead the Mustangs. Josh Fossenburg added a 79 yard touchdown run and Joe Gilson also scored on a 14 yard run. Pella Christian’s Brett Nieuwsma had a huge game carrying 37 times for 225 yards. Eagles quarterback Kyle Nikkel was 11-for-32 through the air for 154 yards but threw three interceptions, while P-C-M’s Josh Fossenburg went four-for-ten for 83 yards with one interception. Both teams are one-and-one on the season and begin district play next week. Pella Christian will host Des Moines Christian while P-C-M hosts West Marshall.
