Even though it’s only week one of district play in high school football and there’s a long ways to go to earn a playoff spot, this week’s game between Pella and Centerville couldn’t be much more exciting and all eyes around Class 3A District 6 will closely be watching the outcome. Pella is rated 4th in this week’s Class 3A Radio Iowa Poll while Centerville is 6th, and 9th in this week’s AP poll, both teams are 2-0, and both are expected to contend for a district championship. The Big Reds return 16 of 22 starters from last year’s playoff team, and start 11 seniors on both offense and defense. That has Pella Coach Jay Mckinstrey’s attention. He says with Centerville’s experience Pella will have to play a perfect game and can’t afford silly mistakes. He also notes this will be one of the most physical games Pella plays all year long and they have to be up to that challenge.
