Marion County is among 85 Iowa counties that will receive funds as part of the 2009 County Endowment Fund Program. Thursday Governor Chet Culver, along with Iowa Department of Economic Development and the Iowa Council of Foundations announced more than $11.3 million to be equally distributed. The Marion County Community Foundation will receive approximately $129,000; with 75 percent to be granted to charitable projects in the county, and the other 25 percent to be placed in a permanent endowment fund. The money comes from state gambling revenue, and is distributed to Iowa counties that do not have a gaming license.se.
