Fourth rated Pella faces their toughest challenge of the young season tonight when they travel to sixth ranked Centerville to open play in Class 3A District 6. Both teams are 2-0 coming into district play and both are expected to contend for a district title so even though it’s only week one of district play, there’s a lot on the line. Centerville returns 16 of 22 starters from last years playoff team and they start 11 seniors on both sides of the ball. Pella Coach Jay Mckinstrey says the Little Dutch defense has to be prepared to play a physical game and stop the Big Red running attack.
Mckinstrey says one advantage Pella has is their offensive balance, being able to throw the ball when needed in addition to a strong rushing attack. He says they’re prepared to go either way depending what the defense gives them.
