Pella Christian continues to show improvements through their first three games of the young football season and Brett Nieuwsma has been a big part of it. The Eagles are 2-1 overall and 1-0 in Class 1A District 6 as they prepare to travel to Pleasantville for the Trojans homecoming Friday night, the Trojans are still looking for their first win of the season. Brett Nieuwsma has already established himself as a major weapon for the Eagles rushing for over 100 yards in all three games, but he’s also become a big time defensive player for the Eagles. Nieuwsma set a school record with 18 tackles including a sack with under a minute to play to preserve the win Friday night over Des Moines Christian. Kacmarynski says Alex Fynaardt has also become a threat on special teams with kickoff returns and the Eagles are just a few tweaks away from becoming a complete team in all areas. He says he’d like to see just a little better efficiency in their passing game especially early in games to go along with their strong rushing attack. You can hear Friday night’s game broadcast live on 92.1 FM KRLS with Jamie Brockman and Nate Van Wyk with the pregame at 6:30pm and kickoff at 7pm. It will also be streamed live on kniakrls.com.
