Kyle Nikkel rushed for 3 touchdowns and threw 2 more to Trey Hugen as Pella Christian beat Pleasantville 42-9 last night on the Trojans homecoming. Early on both teams moved the ball well but had turnover idus as Pella Christian committed four first half turnovers including three fumbles, and Pleasantville returned the favor with three of their own. Pleasantville got on the board first via their defense. After a long Trojan drive stalled at the 7 yard line their defense sacked Kyle Nikkel in the end zone on the next play for a safety and held a 2-0 lead after one quarter. The Eagles added two scores within two minutes of each other in the second quarter on a 1 yard run by Nikkel and a 37 yard pass from Nikkel to Trey Hugen. Pleasantvile found the end zone with 4:15 to go in the first half on an 85 yard strike from Bobby Beier to Clint Adreon and pulled within 14-9 at halftime. That’s all the closer it would get however as Pella Christian scored 28 unanswered points in the second half including runs of 3 and 20 yards by Nikkel, a 5 yard pass from Nikkel to Hugen, and an interception return by Joe Blom. Pella Christain assistant coach Darrell DeRuiter gave credit to the offensive line for the second half turnaround. He also credited the defense for their best performance of the season. The Eagles racked up 445 yards of offense including 313 on the ground led again by Brett Nieuwsma who carried 24 times for 157 yards, Alex Fynaardt carried 9 times for 91 yards and also caught 4 passes for 67 yards while Trey Hugen hauled in 4 catches for 56 yards and 2 scores. Kyle Nikkel was 9-15 through the air for 132 yards and 2 touchdowns. Pleasantville had 322 yards led in rushing by Ryan Marsh with 83 yards on 24 carries, quarterback Bobby Beier was 8-20 for 173 yards and a touchdown but threw 4 interceptions. Clint Adreon had 90 yards receiving while DJ Weaver had 70 yards receiving. Pella Christian improved to 3-1 overall and 2-0 in Class 1A District 6 while Pleasantville fell to 0-4 and 0-2 in district play.
