After months of research and waiting, the Knoxville Fire Department got a brand new, smaller, and more efficient fire truck Friday. Fire Chief Mike Roberts says the new “317” truck will have all of the same rescue and extrication equipment as the previous, larger unit – which the department sold for $165,000. Roberts says the city pad $160,000 for the new truck, which will be able to turn corners, move into fields, and have less of a chance to get stuck in the mud than before. Chief Roberts says it will take 10 to 14 days before the truck is ready for action, as equipment is being installed.
