As early as the 1930’s, colorful patters were printed on feed sacks, and many of those sacks were turned into quilts, dresses and baby clothes by thrifty Midwestern women. Later this month an expert on farmwomen’s contributions during the Great Depression will share stories about her own feed sack quilt collection at the Pella Public Library.

Wendy Zohrer is a member of the American Association of State and Local History, and a past officer of the West Des Moines Historical Society, and will share how quilts can reveal a family’s story. Zohrer will come to the event dressed as a typical farmwoman in the 1930s. She is encouraging those interested to bring their own family heirloom quilts to the event on October 27th at 7:00 p.m. at the Pella Public Library.
