The 2001 winner of the World Food Prize will speak at Central Monday night. Per Pinstrup-Anderson received the World Food Prize for his contribution to agricultural research, food policy, and uplifting the status of the poor and starving citizens of the world.

An agricultural economist by training, he has been dubbed “one of the most influential economists and policy makers today” and “an outstanding spokesperson for effective economic policies for transforming agricultural production of food deficit nations.”

Per Pinstrup-Anderson’s visit to this area of Iowa is part of the World Food Prize Norman E. Borlaug International Symposium, which is taking place later this week in Des Moines. He will speak at 7:30 p.m. Monday night in room 180 of the Vermeer Science Center on the Central College campus. The event is free and open to the public.
