The City of Knoxville made a $6,000 offer to purchase property at the intersection of Main and Robinson Streets on the east side of town. City Manager Dick Schrad tells KNIA/KRLS News the city hopes to turn the property, where the old Maid-Rite Cafe used to be, into a place to display welcome signage, and a rest area for a future trail. Also after returning from closed session this week, the city council decided not to proceed with the purchase of the old machine shop property. Schrad says the city was considering using it for a municipal parking lot, but the upcoming budget constraints and the cost of converting the property for parking were reasons not to proceed at this time.
