The impact of the 10% across-the-board cut in state spending was immediately recognized in many departments around Iowa, but it’s effect on city budgets is not being felt…yet. Pella City Administrator Mike Nardini says Pella’s budget is not facing any direct impacts at this time.

“We’re unaware of anything specific at this time where there’s a direct impact to the city of Pella,” said Nardini. “Now with that being said, there could be potential modifications or changes that could reach out and touch us, per se. As far as revenue sources, though, we’re unaware right now of any direct impacts on that, but there’s more to come, and we should find out more details in the next 30 to 60 days.”

Knoxville City Manager Dick Schrad says the case is the same in their budget, adding that although the city doesn’t receive much in state funds, it might not be able to utilize services of the Iowa State Patrol or the DNR as quickly as it is now if reductions in personnel become a reality.
