The Pella Christian football team opens its postseason campaign tonight, as the Eagles will host the Panthers of Panorama. Pella Christian Head Football Coach Rich Kacmarynski says with such a short turnaround from Friday’s game, it will be important for the team to be mentally prepared and know all of their assignments on the field.

“We’ve been practicing now for quite a long time – thirteen or fourteen weeks – so it’s not so much a technique thing now as it is knowing what we’re doing assignment-wise,” said Kacmarynski.

Panorama prefers a spread-style offense, and Coach Kacmarynski says he thinks the Eagles’ defense is well-suited against that style of attack.

“I think we match up well. Obviously we need to execute our fundamentals: we need to get out and get a pass rush, get pressure on the quarterback, we need to jump receivers and knock the ball down or pick the pass off when we get the chance.”

Coverage of tonight’s substate game at Pella Christian High School can be heard on kniakrls.com, starting at 6:30 p.m., with Eric Gotschall and Nate Van Wyk providing the call. Kickoff between the Eagles and Panthers is at 7:00 p.m.
